How it Works

Interested in commissioning me?Below, I'll cover how it works and what to expect, as well as what each step of the process entails. Which each step is technically short, I'm explaining in-depth so that people who are anxious when contacting strangers or who have never commissioned art before can have the best understanding of what to expect.Contact Methods:
Discord: alphie
Telegram: AlphieArt
Email: [email protected]

Step 1

Gather or create your references. The first step is to know what you would like drawn. Check my prices and select the kind of commission you want. Also check my Terms of Commission - check out the summary found here. Before you contact me, gather up your references. A Google Drive with images and documents is the easiest way for me to access your references, however I will also accept reference material sent via direct message in Discord, Telegram, or email. If you need a template for your character's text references, you're welcome to make a copy of this template and fill it out.

Step 2

Contact me.Once your references are ready and you know what you would like to commission, the next step is to contact me.Option 1:
You can use VGen to commission me!
Visit my VGen Profile!
Option 2:
Don't want to use VGen? Fill out my Google Form!
The form can be found here!
Option 3:
Send me a DM via Discord or Telegram to discuss.

Step 3

Discussion. After reviewing your commission request, I will contact you via one of your supplied contact methods. We will discuss the details of your commission and what you would like to see. I will ask any questions I have and make note of your answers. This is where we confirm at which time(s) payment will be expected, what form of payment will be used, and if you need a scheduled payment plan (for larger commissions).

Step 4

Creation of the Art.If your commission type includes a thumbnailing phase, this will happen first. A thumbnail is a very quick concept sketch that jots down the broad strokes of composition, value, color, and other things. There are no real details at this phase, just vibes. You select your favorite thumbnail. If your commission type does not include a thumbnailing phase, we go straight to the sketching phase.Initial Sketching: I create a first-pass at the image, attempting to capture pose and composition. This stage is very loose, fast, and might include color or value blocking to show forms. Some details will be more refined than others.

Sketching: After receiving feedback on the initial sketch, I will do an edit pass based on your feedback and begin to refine the sketch. Depending on speed of communication, you might have several opportunities to provide feedback during this phase.

Refinement: When the sketch has been completed, and it's ready to move onto the next step, I will confirm with you that you approve this stage. Once it is ready to move on to the next step, payment will be due unless the timing was otherwise specified during step 3.During the refinement stage, lines will be cleaned up and colors, textures, etc applied. What precisely happens at this stage will depend entirely upon what kind of commission it is. The end result of this stage is the finished artwork. There will be opportunities to give feedback during this phase. The image is finished at the end of the refinement phase.

Step 5

Completion.Once you confirm that you are happy with the final image, the commission is complete. You may request resized resolutions (such as reduced file size) or cropping of the image (such as for use as avatars) for no additional fees. The commission is considered complete once payment has been rendered in full and the final image has been shared with you.

Summary

If you are commissioning me through VGen or other platforms, any rules or guidelines of that platform that overlap supersede the Terms of Commission found here.Section 1: The artist retains the right to cancel commissions, issuing refunds as needed. Plus, ghosting the artist gets your commission suspended with no refunds, to be continued when contact resumes. Deadlines cost extra.Section 2: Revisions are limited to a set number per commission type, with charges incurred for excessive revisions. Approving moves onto the next step of the commission. The artist decides the definition of minor vs major revisions.Section 3: You must be 18+ to commission the artist. For NSFW work, characters must be 18+ and appear 18+. The artist will decline to draw NSFW content of any type that falls outside of her comfort zone.Section 4: Payment is due when the sketch is approved and work will not continue until it is paid. Payment processors that ban the sale of NSFW material may not be used for NSFW commissions.Section 5: These are, unless otherwise stated, non-commercial commissions, meaning that they are not for commercial use and are therefore steeply discounted from commercial pricing. The commissioner is granted a life-time license to use and share the art so long as it is not for profit. Commissioned art may not be used for NFTs or similar technologies. The artist's work may not, under any circumstances, be included in AI data sets. Optionally, the commissioner may purchase the copyright if they wish to use the commissioned art for commercial purposes.Section 6: Share references if you have them. Be familiar with the artist's style and set your expectations based on commission samples.

If the potential buyer is below the age of 18, they must have a parent or guardian handle the commissioning for them. When a buyer enters into a commission with the artist, they agree to these terms. At Will Work & Refunds1.1) Commissions are accepted At Will. The artist reserves the right to cancel a commission for any reason. Refunds will be issued for the portion of work not completed. Completed portions will be made digitally available to the commissioner.1.2) Buyers who do not reply to emails or messenger contacts within 30 days will be considered to have suspended their commission. However, the scheduling of the continuation will depend upon the artist's current workload.1.3) Deadlines incur rush fees proportionate to the timeline and commission type.Revisions2.1) For commissions paying less than $100, large revisions (such as a full change of pose beyond very minor things) will be limited to no more than one (1) during the sketch phase. Further major revisions will incur additional fees proportionate to the revision's complication. The number of revision on commissions paying above $100 will depend upon each project.2.2) Regardless of the commission type, once the sketch has been approved, the sketch will not be re-sketched or altered. Approval by the commissioner is a signal to move on to the next phase of the commission.2.3) Minor revisions are allowed during the commission process. During the sketch phase, adding or removing simple details are considered minor revisions. During the ink and color stage, the definition of minor revisions becomes much tighter.2.4) It is up to the artist’s discretion as to what constitutes a major or minor revision.Mature Work3.1) The artist will not, under any circumstances, do mature/adult artwork for anyone under the age of 18.3.2) The artist will not, under any circumstances, do mature/adult artwork of characters who are below the age of 18 or characters who are of a fantasy race that resembles children, such as Lalafel from Final Fantasy XIV. You will be informed if your commission request is outside of the artist's comfort zone. You may be offered alternatives that are within the artist's comfort zone.Payment4.1) For sketch works: payment is due when the base sketch is approved.
For ink or color works: payment is due when the sketch is approved.
Work will not resume until payment is received unless the commissioner is a trusted repeat buyer.
4.2) Payment processors that ban the sale of NSFW material may not be used for NSFW commissions.Copyrights5.1) These commissions are NON COMMERCIAL USE ONLY. The artist retains the copyright to all work unless otherwise specifically agreed upon and stated. Artwork done by the artist is copyright to the artist unless the buyer also purchases the copyright of the image. Commissioned images done after the date of September 13th 2006 may be made available as prints or any other form of merchandise by the artist unless the commissioner purchases the copyright.NOTE: Commercial commissions have different prices from non-commercial commissions.5.2) Commissioned images may not be used for commercial purposes without the written consent of the artist or the copyright of the image being purchased by the commissioner. Commissioners may not sell prints or any other form of merchandise of the commission without purchasing a license or the copyright of the image first.5.3) The commissioner is granted a lifetime non-commercial license to display, alter, upload, transmit, publicly display or perform, print for non-profit purposes, or otherwise use the commissioned artwork for non-commercial purposes. This means that commissioned images may be used, by the buyer, for personal avatars (such as on websites, social media, messenger services, etc), personal (non commercial) website layouts, personal printing (including use of a professional printer service for a private copy), and other personal, private, non-commercial uses.5.4) The price of purchasing the copyright depends upon the intended use and type of piece. Please speak with the artist if interested.5.5) Digital only pieces (such as emoji or Furcadia portraits, etc) may not, under any circumstances, be resold, unless the copyright of the digital only image was originally purchased from the artist. This includes use as things such as paywall downloads and Patreon perks.5.6) Under no circumstances may my art be used for Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) or any similar technologies that may arise.5.7) The artist's work may not, under any circumstances, be included in AI data sets.References and Desired Style6.1) Any specific reference materials that the buyer desires to be used by the artist must be provided by the buyer. If no references are given, the artist is free to depict the described and unreferenced elements however she imagines.6.2) Please be familiar with the artist's art style and drawing preferences before commissioning her. Try to keep the desired results reasonable. The artist has her own style and drawing preferences; do not expect to get work of a caliber beyond what you can find in her gallery, as this is her art style and level of ability at the time.
